Remembering Stan Lee – The Real Superhero

It’s been a gloomy week for comic book fans across the world. Stan Lee has passed away at the age of 95. He looked incredibly fit for his age, making us believe that he would live forever.
He is the person responsible for co-creating the majority of our favorite comic book characters including Spiderman, X-men, Ironman, the Incredible Hulk and more.
Although his life wasn’t void of controversies. This article talks about how he changed the way comic books are regarded.
He instilled within us the belief that anything is possible.
I too used to wish for a radioactive spider bite to gain abilities to climb walls and sling web from my wrists as a kid.
Having spent countless hours playing video games that were based on these characters, Stan Lee contributed a lot to my childhood.
When I look back at the first time I had a crush on someone. I vividly remember that I was playing Ultimate Spiderman on my PC shortly before meeting her.
Stan Lee added a layer of humanity to all his creations. Spiderman, even with his superpowers was a high school kid who worked as a photographer to make ends meet. He also had a conflicting love-life as he couldn’t be there for Mary Jane Watson when she needed it the most. To protect his loved ones, he could never reveal his identity to anyone he knew.
I am glad that everyone got to see Stan Lee in cameos in every Marvel movie ever created. If I’m watching the movie with someone new to comics, I’d be the one pointing in excitement saying

“You see that guy? he was the one that helped create these characters!”

Stan Lee in his prime

Another accolade that Stan Lee will always be remembered for is helping artists gain recognition. You see, in the early days of comics, the creators were rarely given credit. Fans would have to look for hidden clues to determine the creator of the comic. Stan Lee helped change this and in a few years, other comic book outlets started crediting their creators as well.
Who would have that the internet would change the way we redefine entertainment as a whole.
Let’s take a moment to remember Stan Lee, the artist that made us believe everything is possible.
Did you know, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War (Avengers: Infinity War review) are the highest grossing Hollywood movies of all time, bringing in billions of dollars in revenue. Moreover, the Marvel movie franchise has successfully created a cinematic universe in the past decade by releasing over 20 movies and then bringing the story together in an unprecedented masterpiece.
“I used to think what I did was not very important,” he told the Chicago Tribune in April 2014. “People are building bridges and engaging in medical research, and here I was doing stories about fictional people who do extraordinary, crazy things and wear costumes. But I suppose I have come to realize that entertainment is not easily dismissed.” – Stan Lee
The way Stan Lee has inspired all of us is phenomenal. I recently started learning graphic design, drawing is something I have loved to do ever since I was a kid. I don’t think anyone can fill the shoes that Stan Lee vacated, but I’ll try my best to keep his passion alive. Excelsior!
